There’s a new IRONMAN 70.3 coming to Oceania and it’s coming to Melbourne! With a big city buzz, Melbourne is alive and on the go making this event unlike any other Oceania race on the circuit.
Based in Catani Gardens, St Kilda, only 6km from the Melbourne CBD centre, the GWM IRONMAN 70.3 Melbourne will be half distance triathlon racing at its best, with a big city buzz that will make it unlike any other race on the IRONMAN Oceania circuit.
IRONMAN 70.3 Melbourne will be on a centrally located, spectator-friendly and super quick course that starts at the St Kilda Sea Baths, with a 1.9-km one-lap swim in Port Phillip Bay. Athletes will then complete a 90-km, two-lap, fully closed bike course along iconic Beach Road, finishing at the Catani Gardens in St Kilda after two-laps, 21.1-km run with coastal and magnificent Melbourne skyline views. Run around Port Phillip Bay, past the iconic St Kilda Beach and enjoy one of the most picturesque parts of Melbourne.
The new event offers athletes a chance to be among the first to race the new and improved course.

Get ready… It’s coming!
Race village is located in St Kilda, which is renowned for its colourful past, expansive views of Port Phillip Bay, safe sandy beach, palm-lined boardwalk, iconic buildings, gorgeous sunsets and stunning parks and gardens. The course is centrally located, spectator friendly and a super quick scenic course that will be great for newcomers and seasoned athletes keen to record a fast time.
Set-up to embrace sporting events, Melbourne has ample of outstanding accommodation, easy access and public transport right at its doorstep, and passionate crowds that will bring the noise.
Swim
The 1.9km ROKA Swim Course begins with a Rolling Wave Start in front of the well-known St. Kilda Sea baths in the heart St. Kilda beach. The water temperature in Port Phillip Bay this time of year will sit around 18 degrees Celsius so it’s likely to be a wetsuit optional swim. Athletes will swim directly out for 100m before a left-hand turn to head South for 500m towards St Kilda Marina, prior to turning around and heading back North towards the St Kilda Pier. Swimmers will swim under the pier before taking a right-hand turn to begin the final 350m of swimming before the short run into transition at Catani Gardens.
Bike
Athletes will exit T1 to begin the first of the two laps of the Ventum 90km Bike Course by immediately heading South towards the mecca of cycling within Melbourne – Beach Road. The clockwise course will take cyclists South along Melbourne’s coast as they get to chance to take in views of the iconic Half Moon Bay and past the Southern point of Beaumaris before turning around just prior to the Mordialloc surf club. Athletes will follow Beach Road back to St Kilda before turning around for lap 2 in front of Catani Gardens. The fast, flat and scenic course is some of the best cycling that Melbourne has to offer!
Run
The 21.1km Hoka One One run course takes athletes along the St Kilda & Elwood waterfront for a scenic and flat 2 lap anti-clockwise course, with amazing views of the Melbourne CBD. Runners will head out South onto Pier road which will link them up with the waterfront Bay Trail path while they run the length of St Kilda Beach and down to the turnaround, past Point Ormond in Elwood. Runners will then head North back to Catani Gardens where they will start their second lap. On the second lap inbound towards Catani Gardens, runners will take a right then a left hand turn as they head down the iconic palm tree lined finish line.
